When it comes to deciding when to explore the Bronx, New York, the best time of year depends on what type of activities you plan to do. According to the tourism score, the most ideal times of year for warm-weather activities are from mid-June to early July and from early August to late September. For those looking to explore the city and take part in outdoor activities, I recommend visiting New York during the fall months, from late September to early November. May and June are also great months for outdoor activities.
The city of New York hosts a variety of events throughout the week to encourage locals and visitors to be respectful of the planet in all aspects of their lives. These events include art exhibitions, educational forums, entertainment, and outdoor activities in parks. The Bronx Zoo is one of the best zoos in the country and November is the best month to visit it, as the animals are most active this time of year. Additionally, every year in May, 200 dragon boat teams gather in Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park for one of the largest dragon boat festivals in the United States.
Events held in New York in November include the New York Marathon, which attracts runners and spectators from all over the world; the New York Comedy Festival, which attracts lots of big names; and, of course, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. In July, events include the famous Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island; Shakespeare in the Park, with performances in Central Park; Harlem Week, a month-long celebration of New York's coolest neighborhood; and for the first time in more than two decades, a presentation of 500 works of art at a museum with more than 100 new acquisitions. Other events held throughout the year include Blue Man Group and The Play That Goes Wrong shows; concerts; sporting events; and the New York Comedy Festival. Winter is also an ideal time to visit New York as it is usually cheaper than other times of year, especially from early January to late March.
Fall is also an ideal time for fashion lovers who want to explore SoHo or attend shows at Bryant Park. New Year celebrations include firecracker ceremonies and cultural festivals (firecrackers are set off to ward off evil spirits), Lantern Festivals, and various family events at cultural institutions. In general, I believe October is the best month to visit New York but if you have room for maneuver, late September through early November are great times to go. Winter can be long and bleak but there's nothing like seeing New York under a cool snowfall. Events held in New York in April include Easter parades on Fifth Avenue; Sakura Matsuri cherry blossom festivals at Brooklyn Botanic Garden; and Earth Day events. Events held in June include NYC Pride; Coney Island mermaid parades; and New York Jazz Age Lawn Parties on Governors Island.
