This year, the Bronx, New York is offering a variety of special events to celebrate the holidays. The Riverdale Temple event features a selection of jewelry, clothing, accessories, ceramics and carpentry crafted by local artisans from the New York area or fair trade artisans from the third world. In addition, George Washington's birthday is commemorated on the third Monday in February. The Orchard Beach fireworks in the Bronx and the Astoria Park fireworks in Queens can be seen from the South Bronx, while the Macy's 4th of July fireworks can be viewed remotely from the South Bronx.
The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is hosting a Christmas Train Hall during bar car nights. This event includes historic stories around the campfire and hot chocolate with urban park rangers. The lighting of the Bronx Hanukkah menorah in the Riverdale neighborhood includes music and Christmas meals. Before the pandemic, 2000 bags of fresh produce were donated at the Hunts Point fruit and vegetable market while supplies last.
This 30-year-old Bronx Christmas event is perfect for families. It features a panoramic show of G-scale toy locomotives that depict 175 emblematic places in New York City, such as the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, all made with natural materials. At Ciccarone Park on 188th Street and Arthur Avenue in Belmont neighborhood you can buy drinks and light snacks at one of NYBG's outdoor bars or at the Bronx Night Market Holiday Pop-Up.
This event includes music, photos, virtual reality, gifts and a visit from Santa Claus and his elves. It will be held at 2900 Southern Blvd near Enid Haupt Conservatory in Bedford Park neighborhood. Before the pandemic it was held in Julio Carballo fields at 1230 Lafayette Avenue in Hunts Point neighborhood. Little Italy in Belmont neighborhood near Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Garden and Fordham University will host an event this weekend.
